| Ugh! YouTube video playback always stuttering and stopping, please help | | Dear CNET members,
Happy Friday the 13th! Some of you may consider today to be unlucky, but how can it be when we are surrounded by such a caring community who is always willing to take the time to help each other. We're lucky to have you! Now let's see if we can help Wolfgang answer his question on why YouTube video streaming is always stuttering and stopping.
Wolfgang, you're not alone. I have received many e-mails from other members who've experienced the same. So what are the causes of poor video streaming? Well, it can be several possibilities. A few members pointed out that poor online video playback performance can be caused by a hardware or utility setting on your machine. Yet, some people say if you're accessing YouTube during high traffic times or when the site is having issues, that could be the cause. However, most members pointed the finger at your broadband provider. While all the descriptive details can be found in our members' posts, here are a couple of broadband issues that can affect your poor video streaming:
-- Internet connection speed of your package (may not be fast enough for you)
-- Congestion on your broadband network (the more people in your neighborhood downloading and uploading will have an effect on your overall broadband speed.)
Given these, as member amirat points out "Remember that your high-speed connection is only as fast as the server and/or route your connection travels to that server or service. In this case YouTube." There are plenty of great answers to go around, and we even have tips to make your YouTube experience more enjoyable, such as the use of the "Pause" button. A few members suggested using a video downloader or video accelerator utility, so you won't have to stream it in real time. Bottom line, read all the solutions and hopefully you'll be able to nail down the cause of your issues with YouTube. And if you have a chance, Wolfgang, let us know what you found out, and your solution. Thanks everyone! Have a great weekend! Cheers! - Lee
Got suggestions? Send me an e-mail: messageboards@cnet.com | | | Lee Koo CNET Community manager | | Last week's question | | Ugh! YouTube video playback always stuttering and stopping, please help I have a question regarding stuttering YouTube playing. I have a Dell machine, Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit, Service Pack 2, Intel Core 2 CPU, 6,600@2.40 Ghz, 2.39 GHz, 2GB RAM, TimeWarner Roadrunner Cable modem service standard, and I am protected by Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes' Antimalware.
I am wondering who/which is the most likely culprit slowing down YouTube "high-definition" and other resolution (like 360p) playing, resulting in temporary stoppage and stuttering and those dynamic dotted circles indicating loading? Is it my system, my cable broadband service, what?
It really gets on my nerves viewing a classical or Flamenco or Latcho Drom = Gypsy concert being constantly interrupted by reloading. Is there anything I can do on my part to help me solve this problem? Thank you so much for any help/advice I may/hope to receive from members in the know.
