| Windows 7: All desktop shortcuts appear twice and it won't stop doing this! | | Dear CNET members,
Happy Friday! This doesn't happen very often, but it looks like this past week's question submitted by Jeff B. about his Windows 7 desktop displaying duplicate shortcuts didn't get a great deal of responses from our members, likely because it's a very uncommon issue. Or maybe there's just a lack of Windows 7 users? I read through the few answers we did get, however, and it turns out there's a wide range of things that could be causing this issue. So I'd really like to call upon our expert Windows 7 users to chime in to provide a detailed and clear explanation of what possibly could be the root cause of this. Hopefully you can also provide step-by-step directions for Jeff so that he could solve this issue painlessly. And Jeff, if you have any more details to add that may help with solving this issue, please join the discussion.
I have listed a few members' answers explaining what could possibly be wrong, but more responses are always welcome. For those who have contributed, we all thank you for your time and for sharing your knowledge. Have a great weekend! Cheers! - Lee

I help out at the local church with the computer system. The church recently bought a new HP desktop running Windows 7. Unfortunately, all the desktop shortcuts appear twice and I can't stop it from doing this. The shortcuts appear only once in the relevant desktop folder and all the other duplicate desktop folders have nothing in them. I can't find solutions on the HP or Microsoft sites.
Does anyone know how to fix the problem? I don't want to reload the system and start again. Thanks!
