At CES 2010, Sony announced its first 3D Blu-ray player, the BDP-S770, but that won't be the only 3D-capable standalone Blu-ray player from Sony this year. Sony also announced the BDP-S470, a midrange Blu-ray player that's slated to get a firmware update in the summer to make it 3D capable. In addition, the company says three previously announced products--the BDV-E770W, the BDV-E570, and the BDP-S570--will be getting the same 3D upgrade.

Red-carpet-ready HDTVs
At CNET the scores on our HDTV reviews are composed of three subratings: Design, Features, and Performance. To the chagrin of videophiles, we actually place a fair amount of weight (30 percent) on Design because, frankly, normal people do care what their TVs look like when turned off. If you care a lot, then this list is for you. Read more

Glossy screens on the rise--whether you like it or not
Posted by John Falcone
For the record: I hate reflective screens. In the past, I've written about how I hate them on laptops. And, judging from the reader comments, many of you hate them as well. Unfortunately, it seems like our pleas are falling on deaf ears. Matte screens are becoming harder to find on laptops, and LCD HDTVs are looking glossier every year.  Read more
