Dear CNET members,
Happy Friday! Before we touch on Irwin's question about software for burning camcorder video to DVDs for preservation and sharing, I wanted to first apologize to you for not sending out a newsletter last week. The unfortunate news is my father suffered a heart attack, but the good news is he is doing much better, thanks to God and the miracle of modern medicine. This whole frightening experience served as a great reminder again to never take anything or anyone for granted. Most of us live in a world that's chaotic and fast-paced, and as time flies, we forget to slow down a bit and appreciate all the things we have and the people who surround us. So for me, this Christmas is a celebration of all the gifts I've been given, such as life, family, friendship, and love, and also being appreciative of all things that make me who I am today. Thanks for listening. Now let's tackle Irwin's question.
First Irwin, a big congrats to you on becoming a grandpa! It must be an exciting time, and I too one day look forward to that moment. Well, Irwin, our members have come through in a huge way with a bunch of advice and recommended software ranging from free utilities to paid ones in order for you to successfully burn your camcorder videos to DVDs for preservation and distribution. Numerous titles were recommended, but the most noted titles were Pinnacle Studio, Nero, Roxio Creator, Adobe Premiere, and Corel VideoStudio. However, many of our members also pointed out that since you are running Windows Vista now, it comes preinstalled with Windows Movie Maker as a stock program that gives you all the features you are looking for, and then some. It comes highly recommended so you may not have to look far.
Irwin and others out there who are taking on the tasks of making new movies and memories of loved ones, I hope our members' recommendations will give you a good head start on your journey. But as a important reminder to help save these precious memories, please remember to back them up and not with just with one copy, but multiple copies. I have selected a few member answers in the Q&A section for starters, so enjoy! And as always, I thank each and every one of you for your contributions.
There will be no Community newsletter until after the New Year as I'll be taking some time off to be merry and festive. I wish you all a safe and an incredibly happy holidays. I hope it is filled with love and joy--from my family to yours! See you all next year! Take care. Cheers! - Lee
