Three things are on the tips of our tongues lately: Internet browsers, security suites, and video-editing apps. Let's start with the first. NetApplications' browser usage statistics for September provide a look at who's gaining clout on the Web: Google's Chrome, twin mobile powerhouses Apple iOS and Google Android, and Microsoft's IE9. In other browser news, Chrome enjoyed an update that added activation by default of the WebGL 3D graphics technology, an option for built-in Google Instant search results, and some hardware acceleration for some CSS transformations--to the dev version, at least.

On the security side of things, we got our eager mitts on AVG's Anti-Virus Free Edition, which breathes some new life into one of the most popular security programs around with a shorter install, better usability, and faster scans. We also reviewed Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security (32-bit) 2011 (3.0), an update that brings users a faster suite with a smaller system impact.

Those looking for a bit more entertainment from their software might be pleased to learn that 3D video editing has come to Magix Movie Edit Pro. For version 17, Magix has also improved performance and modernized the interface, as well as added the ability to import Photoshop layers directly as menu templates and export directly to Facebook. Also announced last week: an update to Nero's Multimedia tools and some mobile-friendly features for RealPlayer.
